MARRIAGE LICENSES

Marriage Licenses may be purchased in the Thibodaux office, the Lockport office, or the Galliano office. Louisiana Marriage Licenses can only be used in the state of Louisiana. The license must be purchased at least three days before the ceremony. The ceremony has to be held within thirty days of issuance.

Things Needed for a Marriage License:

1. Certified Birth Certificate with official seal
2. Social Security Number for both parties
3. $35.00 cash or check
4. Date of Divorce or Death from previous marriage
5. If under the age of 18, both parents must sign unless one parent has full custody (Certified copy of custody papers are needed)
6. If under the age of 16, both parents must sign and a judge’s approval is needed

The marriage license is good for 30 days. There is a 72 hour waiting period before using the license. If you can’t wait the 72 hours, you can get a waiver from the judge.
